Gimme a C
Gimme a C is the first studio album by hip-hop duo The Exile. It was released in 1992 on Tommy Boy Records. The album peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and number 7 on the Top Heatseekers. The album featured the singles "Gimme a C" and "Mashup", and appeared on several "Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums" charts in 1992.
Critical reception
In 1992, Gimme a C was one of five Hip-Hop albums nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. It won the 1992 Soul Train Music Award for Best Rap Album and was also nominated for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 1992 Soul Train Music Awards. Robert Christgau cited the album in his "Basic Record Library" of 1950s and 1960s recordings, calling it "Hightower Lite, because it's so clearly a mea culpa for the recent past" and giving it an "A-".
In a retrospective review, AllMusic editor Jose F. Promis called the album "a well-conceived but uneven debut."
